Past Mission Threads / inheritor-city-assault / Gate Containment
Avatar
The West Gate is the sight of a terrible battle. A frenzied mob of Termies struggles to fight their way out of the gate here since the South one has taken the brunt of the Inheritor Advance. Hundreds of dead terminals and IA soldiers blanket the street, fallen in the brutal melee combat that has forced the remainder of the unit to shelter in buildings close to the gate. Some terminals have run inside and hand to hand combat still claims the lives of individual soldiers here and there, while others shoot down from upper floors. Many are streaming out of tunnels, former homes, and hiding places across the city to make for the gate-to flee into the countryside and settle somewhere else- doing their best to escape the gas and the guns of the Alliance. These terminals will make refuge somewhere else, and will menace the surrounding area if not stopped here.
Avatar
Kror is looking to the nightmarish scene from a nearby passageway trying to keep out of sight from both IA and termies. "Goblin can you hear me? You are helping containing the West gate right?" He asks over comms trying to keep his voice low (edited)
Avatar
Advancing toward the West gate with some other Inheritors, Goblin looks around him when he hears Kror over the comm. "I hear you, Kror. This is a real carnage here and many Termies are trying to flee in the wild. We will do our best to keep them inside and kill as much as possible. Where are you? Do you need help to escape your position?" (I guess Kror's metamorphose can also dupe Aura or, being a Null bird, she can detect the trick somehow?)

Drang is rushing towards the west gate, plasma projector in hand and clearly not used to the protective equipment he's kitted in. He tries to keep the din of the assault out of his mind as he listens to his comms, "Drang Saigarn reporting, is our man on the inside in trouble?"
Avatar
Hearing a second voice over the comms Kror answers "So far i have been out of trouble, i have a crazy plan but no idea if we can actually pull it off. I have a war horn that Ana gave me, i can try to call the termies into the city so our troops can regroup and try to ambush them at the gates. What do you think Goblin?"
Avatar
"That could work. I would suggest you to try different kind of call with that horn. They are all trying to run and are disorganized so we don't know if they will react at all. But that's worth trying. We will also need as much information on your position as possible to avoid killing you."
Avatar
"let's first see if they react to my calling, if they do just make sure not to shoot the one in the front with the horn. But i will try to find a way to get out of harms way. For now keep a close look on my video feed, i will not be able to talk while I'm with then" Looking around Kror tries to find a vantage point where he can use the horn to try and gather the termie around him and away from the buildings and gate.
Avatar
"Good. We will be ready to assist you. Stay safe."
Avatar
(you'd be able to get to the roof of the building you're in, we also never established if you're maintaining your termie form or not, as you'll revert to normal once you stop committing effort for it) (edited)
Avatar
(You know he likes his new form. He will keep it forever 💗)
Avatar
(yeah I'm maintaining my termite form for now. I will RP it once i pull back the effort to get to normal)
8:15 AM
Kror climb to the top of the building before blowing the horn that Ana gave him, trying to mimick the same sound and pattern used by the termies on Ana footage. He looks down to the streets eager to see if it actually worked before blowing on it again.
Avatar
Outside the gate the inheritor alliance soldiers and the rest of the team begin to see the mob of Termies pulling back. The soldiers are too exhausted to give chase but after a moment they’re now staring at an empty gateway, with the Termies withdrawing into the gaseous mix. From kror’s position he can see the Mob approaching the building he occupied , listening to the horns signal and adopting something like crude battle formations
Avatar
"Looks like it's working, Goblin. Assemble the IA forces on the gate to ambush the termies. I don't know how long I can stall them. In case i can't make contact again just don't shoot the termite with the horn at the front, if we have air support now is the time to call it. Good luck everyone." Kror blows the horn one last time before making his way down the building to join the termie horde (edited)
Avatar
(With the gas being on the ground I don’t think air support would risk it, as they might hit friendlies, but we do have artillery and armor that we can call on with more accuracy since we need a ground spotter )
8:31 AM
(Kror is in a good spot to call it in, but if he does he has to book it because it can be up to a 500m radius )
Avatar
Still inside the building Kror marks the GPS coordinates and send them to the IA HQ calling for a artillery strike on his position in 3 minutes. Once he gets the confirmation from HQ Kror exits the building from a window facing a street opposite the termies and run as fast as he can down the street and away from the termies.

Hearing that Kror has been calling for artillery on the radio, Goblin looks around him to find a safe position. Motioning around him, he yells at the people around. "Get under cover as much as you can but be sure to still block the gate. We don't want to see Termies escaping but we also don't want to risk taking a shell on the head." Then, switching not a private chan with Kror, Goblin tries to cheer him up. "You better have to run fast now that you called for a steel rain. You are crazy man. Remind me to offer you a few drinks if you make it out of it alive."

(okay, so Kror needs to designate a radius of 50 to 300 meters, and a D6 for how many minutes it takes for the guns to begin their fire mission)
Avatar
(radius 300 meters, rolled a 3)
Avatar
With three minutes to exit the blast zone, you begin to sprint through the incoming mobs of terminals, leaving many confused in your wake as you make your way toward the gate. The streets are confusing and gas covered and it is easy to lose your way, your companions hearing the confusion over the interom
Avatar
Hearing the countdown before the artillery shot, Goblin inquires about Kror's status. "Are you OK Kror? Are you able to find a safe spot?"
Avatar
Still running as fastest as he can and panting for air kror manages a quick reply. "Heading for the gate... Don't shoot and take cover." As he closes in on the gate he reverts back to his natural form, hoping to catch the termite off guard as he tries to make the last few meters and avoid friendly fire

(Exert/con kror)
Avatar
When he sees Kror turning back to his human form, Goblin gets a bit out of his cover and gestures to direct Kror. The man stands ready to run help his companion if needed and he keeps an eye on potential Termies' followers. "Here, Kror! Run!"
Avatar
100m short of safety, it seems Kror is going to land in the edge of the bombardment zone if he is not helped immediately.
Avatar
Seeing Kror running with difficulties, Goblin runs in his direction to help him, no matter the danger. Maybe his power armor will help him pass throughout it with less risk. "I'm coming to help you Kror. Don't give up!"
10:29 AM
(Should I roll something?)
Avatar
(Yu've got storm armor with that jump ability, we'd need an exert/con yourself but we could carry him to safety. You can also teleport)
Avatar
(I can teleport 10 meters only (Teleportation-0) and the Storm Armor allow a 20 meters leap so I'm too short to cover the 100 meters without running a bit or teleporting multiple time. So I roll anyway or we assume that I can cover the distance without a roll?)
Avatar
(your main could be to teleport and your move could still be the 20m boost, so all told 30m per round, Kror is also presumably double moving toward you, so we'd cross the distance in 12 seconds to get to him and scoop him up, getting back would be 18 seconds more , so we'd need an exert/con from you goblin to try to get any extra movmeent here so we don't get caught at the edge of the barrage)
Avatar
(Exert/Con: 6) In a few seconds, Goblin alternates between teleportation leaps and jumps helped by the boosters of his Storm Armor to reach Kror as fast as possible. When he joins him, he catches him and take him in his arm before jumping and teleporting back to cover. (That's five rounds, right? So five efforts)
Avatar
(if i use tangible force construct to build a dome around us and move it with telekinetic manipulation will it help at least absorb some of the damage done by shrapnel? It's only 20 points of DMG against ac15, but it's better than nothing i suppose)

(No, artillery barrages have their own mechanics, so force construct wouldn't provide the kind of protection you're hoping for. We would be looking at 5 rounds goblin, yes)

There is a deafening bang as the fire mission is called in. Shells begin their whistling ascent through the air and the radio operator at the gun battery reports that the shells will splash within 30 seconds as they glide back down toward the ground. Kror is running, trying his best to reach the barricade but Goblin and Drang can tell that he is not going to reach the edge of the bombardment zone in time. Sparing a quick look at one another, Goblin bounds forward alternating between short teleports and the boosting abilities of his storm armor. Kror runs as fat as he can but he has run through half the city already. Muscles burn, lungs scream silently for air that is harder and harder coming in with the enclosing gas. The interior of the websuit fills with condensation at the supreme effort. A heavy mass sweeps Kror off his feet as Goblin turns, Kror in his arms in a fireman's carry, alternating between bounding, teleporting, and a new pull on the both of them as Drang drags them forward as soon as they appear with focused tugs of telekinesis. The lot of you smash into one another, bowled from your feet by the heavy impact just as the shells splash down. (D100 for percentage of the zone destroyed, but Kror is safe)

Drang unsteadily rights himself, the adrenaline rush fading with the ringing in his ears, "Are you two alright? That was far too close." He looks on towards the impact zone, surveying the carnage they narrowly avoided.
Avatar
The bombardment was done with fewer guns than requested it seems and of the targets hit most Termies had fled the streets to the safety of the buildings when the first shells began to hit. Still, the streets have been pulverized and several buildings have fallen from the shell impact. The work of purging the rest may begin.
6:58 AM
(40% of the Termies in the designated zone have been killed by the bombardment
Avatar
Getting back on his two legs, Goblin nods at Drang. "I'm fine, yeah. Thanks for your help by the way." Then, turning toward Kror, he adds: "You good as well, Kror? It was a close call. But we are not done yet and there are still many Termies that we need to contain in the city".
7:24 AM
(If Kror agrees to use it, can a TK Pressure Field be used on Aura so I can bring her by my side to help us here?)
Avatar
(if it works i can do that for sure)

Avatar
Still gasping for air kror manages to steady himself "Thanks for your help, both of you, owe you one. Guess I miss judged my athletic capabilities." He says smiling "It not over yet." He nods to Goblin "but hopefully the odds are now in our favor. A small deatachement can stay here and block the gate while others pursue the termies into the city."
Avatar
"Good thing that you are fine. I'm glad we were able to save you from that the artillery." Looking back into the city, Goblin then turns toward Kror. "Before doing anything else, I have an idea but I will need you help, Kror. I have read in the report of your exploration of the gas mining complex that you were able to produce protective fields. If I summon Aura to help us in battle, could you use one such field on her to protect her from the gas?
Avatar
Drang readies his plasma projector and the robes of his protective equipment flatten against his armorsuit, "I can do something similar if you need it, Goblin. What's your idea? I'm at your disposal."
Avatar
"Never used it on a non human being, but i can try." He says as a rifle materialize on his hands. (Telekinetic armory) "Any plans regarding the assault?" He asks them
Avatar

(I can do it, i have like 5 effort remaining)

(Gotcha)
Avatar
With the two telekinetic psychic by his side, Goblin closes his eyes and mutters a few words almost inaudibly. Soon, Metaspace fumes starts to appear next to him and grow bigger until a wind blow wipes the smoke and Aura is standing next to him, shrieking with pleasure. "It's your turn guys. Please, protect my friend as she would die from the gas and she will help us on the battlefield." Petting Aura kindly, Goblin looks at the city. "We can follow your idea Kror. We can keep soldiers here to keep the gates while we check the streets and kill the remaining Termies. With your knowledge of the place, it shouldn't be too hard to find their hiding spots. What do you all think ?) (Committing one effort for the day to summon Aura)
Avatar
The giant birds never stop to amaze Kror. They really are magnificent animals "Long time no see Aura, happy to see you again." He says to the bird as he summons a pressure field around each one of them. "I have created a pressure field around us all, in the case our suits or masks fail we are good." "What dou you say? Any ideas?" He asks turning to the other two IA members.
Avatar
As Kror salutes Aura, the birds answers with a loud chirping, strange to hear from a big bird like this one.
Avatar
Drang looks up at the strange bird, taking a step back, I didn't think nullbirds were this big! "I agree with Goblin, any survivors in the nearby building might compromise the gate again." He turns to Kror, "Were there any termies hiding near the gate here, Kror?"
Avatar
Seeing Drang take a step back, Goblin pats Aura. "Don't worry, she won't harm you. You will have to earn her trust by fighting on our side before she lets you approaches her closely or touch her but she won't attack."
Avatar
"After the artillery strike i suppose the termite just take shelter whenever they could. And we probably should take the opportunity to strike before they can regroup."
Avatar
Drang nods, both to Goblin and Kror, "Very well. Let's get to clearing the buildings, then." Drang turns and looks for any buildings nearby which are still standing, or similar places where termies might hide.
Avatar
The gas is beginning to clear and you can see two large skyscrapers closest to you. Each has taken a direct hit by an artillery shell, and glass tumbles from their sides as they sway in the wind. You can hear termies within, and small arms fire peppers the street as they take chance shots at exposed IA soldiers
Avatar
"This buildings doesn't seem very stable. Do we have charges to try to take at least one down?" He asks the others
Avatar
"We can try. My telekinesis isn't very strong, but it can deal some damage with time. Otherwise... I don't know."
5:29 PM
(Can I spot any particular weakspots in the structure as it sways?)
Avatar
"it worth a shot, maybe if we time our efforts with the wind it's enough to get the building crumbling down."
Avatar
Goblin looks at the buildings while listening to Kror and Drang. "Yeah. You might be able to inflict enough structural damages to make it fall. I saw you at the Olympics Kror. You already know how to deal with this kind of things." he says, tapping on Kror's shoulder.
Avatar
"Thanks for the confidence but this is a little bigger than the ship's mast." He says eying Goblin. "But it's worth a shot. Clear the streets around the building, let's try and make one of the buildings collapse into the other. lets time it with wind. Ready when you are Drang."
Avatar
(We'd have to get inside to set charges. I think with Drang's background he;'d be able to know where once you get in. Remi, did you have any ideas? )
Avatar
(Just to clarify on the situation, does it look like we'll have much of an issue before reaching the building?)
Avatar
"Just a little bigger than a mast. But you must admit it would also be way more epic than crashing a boat." Looking in the street around the buildings and at the higher places from where Termies are shooting, Goblin adds: "We will have to be careful if we want to move inside. Do we have explosive charges if your telekinetic powers aren't enough?" (OOC, I got it that TK can't work but IC, Goblin is still not fully aware of this)
Avatar
(Tk won’t work on this much weight, we have to go in. Drang, the street has lots of gas clouds , smoke and now shell craters and we know there might be Termies nearby shaking off their shell shock, so the way is clear now but may not be soon)
Avatar
(can we assume we have the charges?)
Avatar
(Yes. Everyone has one)
Avatar
Drang nods, "I have mine, let's get going before the termies organize and this window closes." Drang takes point and heads for the front of the building, keeping an eye out for any movement in and around the building. (Activating Conduit on my plasma projector)
Avatar
(just arrive at my in laws house for the holiday, so my posting rate can slow down a bit. Sry in advance guys)
1:30 PM
Kror follows just behind Drang with his weapon ready. "I'm right behind you. Any idea how to demolish a building?"
Avatar
Goblin takes the read with Aura and looks around them, looking for any suspicious movement or activity. His Breach rifle at the ready, he answers to Kror: "I haven't added the demolition of a skyscraper to my list yet so I can't help this time. But I will cover you while you are doing your business."
Avatar
"Looks like artillery damaged this one, let's see if we can finish the job. I have a charge here, I think we all have them. If we can damage the lower floors enough, the building should implode and simply fall downwards. Far safer than it falling to the side. Let's see if we can find some weakspots..." Drang is going to keep moving forward and try to look for any areas that look damagable. Load-bearing elements or already damaged sections in particular.

Goblin and Remi notice brief flickers of movement in the gas bordering the streets. Shadows emerge, and then retreat back quickly as though a pack of termies on each side is testing the conditions, before making a move toward you
Avatar
"Watch out! We are not alone and there are Termies in the fog." alerts Goblin after noticing movements. "We should move in a circle, our back against each others and hurry up inside the building."
Avatar
Drang closes in next to the rest of the group, "Think we can scare them off with something?"
Avatar
"I think our best bet is to avoid combat for as long as possible, the noise will surely attract more termies." He says following Goblin instructions

Drang nods, tightening his grip on his gun and follows in formation.

You get to within 20m of the target building, making your way through the gas and debris filled streets, occasionally stepping around shell holes and the remains of overgrown cars or chunks of masonry from other buildings. Upon approaching an open stretch of street the termie pack on the right begins making a move out of the gas clouds. You can see many of them have some sort of adaptions or filtering organs , and the gas has not bothered them. They’re the lucky ones of their kin.

Finishing off the remaining termies is a matter of ease, and after a frenzied moment or two of battle, you find yourselves once again alone in the street, surrounded by the dead- amid the blanketing fogs of chemical smoke. The building you're meant to bring down is just ahead and if it had doors once, they're not there anymore.

Daerevrurr 1/5/2022 7:52 AM
Goblin pats Aura for her good work before turning to the others. "Let's not waste time in the street and move inside the building. I can cover you while you do your stuff Drang."

Moving into the building you notice Termies were here once, and recently, but look to have been driven off or displaced by the fighting right now. A cement staircase leads upstairs.

Drang takes the charges in hand, "Right, let's do this quick." Heading up the stairs, Drang searches the walls for signs of structural damage he can finish off with the demo charges.
Avatar
It is not hard for you to find them, and after a brief sprint upstairs you find four corners of the 6th floor where a charge placed in the right spot can bring the whole thing down like a cement tree, blocking the avenue with rubble and making the gate inacessible .
Avatar
Daerevrurr 1/6/2022 2:12 PM
Goblin follows Drang upstair, with Aura close behind him. He whistles when he sees the state of the building and turns toward Drang. "Tell me where I should place my charge. Aura will cover the stair going down."
Avatar
Drang kneels and secures his charge in the corner, "Here, blowing out this corner should do it. The regiment at the gate needs to get clear, as do we. Let's get going before the termies get the courage to strike again."
Avatar
Daerevrurr 1/6/2022 2:35 PM
Goblin nods and place his charge where indicated, keeping an eye on the stairs in case Termies would want to join the festivities.
Avatar
With the charges set, Drang heads back downstairs, announcing to the others, "The explosives are set, let's leave while we can."

Remi pokes his head outside to see if any resistance will meet them as they flee the building.

(Sounds good to me if blowing a single of the two buildings is enough to fulfill that part of our mission)

(Agreed)

(if our part of the mission it's done yeah I also agree)

(the debris is going to choke the street and Pt 2 can be fighting to reach your embattled allies underground)

"The subway sounds like a good idea. Can you lead us there Kror?"
Avatar
Kror nods "Follow me, if I recall correctly we shouldn't be too far away." He says before heading towards the nearest station

You're able to pick your way through the streets with ease, from your time deployed in advance and scouting the area. The station ahead of you looms in the shadow of the dispelling mist and you see several terminals crawling on their hands and knees as they are overcome by the gas. They're no threat to you, raising weak limbs and claws to ward you back, but their strength is failing
Avatar
Seeing the entrance to the station Kror doubles down his speed. "Over there" he says pointing
Avatar
Goblin and Aura follow Krok to the station and when he spots the dying Termies, he looks at them with some kind of compassion. "Poor creatures. They shouldn't have suffered from the gas. I guess they didn't received a dose strong enough for that." Looking at the station entry, Goblin adds: "Maybe we will be able to join the other team from there. But first, we have some fireworks to start." Switching to the global comm channel, Goblin starts to talk to everyone listening to this channel: "Call to all Inheritors. We are going to blow a full building in a few moment at the following position. You are advised to stay clear from this zone or find a really good shelter. Be ready for the big explosion!" Then, looking at Drang, he adds. "I think the honour is yours to push the big button. It's going to be awesome!"
Avatar
Drang nods and retrieves the detonator from his pack, nerves dominate any excitement he may have, "No time like the present, then." Once Goblin's message goes through and given time to disseminate, Drang opens his comms as well, "Detonation in T-5...4...3...2...1...." Drang pulls the trigger.
Avatar
Remi closes his eyes. Holding on to the last breath he took... and waiting...
Avatar
Goblin prepares himself for the big blow by looking at the building and recording it.
Avatar
Kror braces for impact as Drang start the countdown
Avatar
At first nothing happens. There is a brief pop and a small cloud of smoke from within before a devastating daisy chain of explosions send the building tumbling. More dust is shed from its side to make the streets dark and hard to navigate once again, and chunks of debris choke the street near the gate, making the once wide open avenue rubble filled. Any escaping termies will have to pick their way through the slabs of masonry, broken pipe, glass, and other hazards all while under fire from the guns of Inheritor Army soldiers. This way out is no longer of use to them, and the army has been given precious time to regroup.
Avatar
As the charges explode and the building crumbles into rubble, Goblin shouts excitedly at the sight, still recording. When the smoke starts to fall again, he stops the camera and turns toward the others. "Good job guys. That was the fun part of our job.". Then, looking at the stairs going inside the ground, he adds: "If anyone of you wants to pee, it's now or never. Let's join the other group if you are ready." (Goblin is ready to go inside the station)
Avatar
"Never seen so much destruction this up close. It's impressive nonetheless" he says before checking his gear and making sure his companions are ok. "Ready when you guys are."

The gate and ticketing area of the station is a mess. Termies have fled already or have descended into the tunnels below. You can hear weapons fire nearby from down there, and the now unmoving escalators lead into the darkness of the subway platform.
Avatar
"Does anyone have a light source? It's pitch black down there."
Avatar
"I've got a single flare, that's all."
Avatar
(That will be enough to at least see you down there)
Avatar
Putting his money where his mouth is, Goblin produces his flare and light it. "I will go first if you wish as I have the flare." Before the descent, Goblin switches his rifle for his pistol. (edited)
11:56 AM
(Not sure if I have my pistol with me. I will check when on my computer and see what weapon I use)

(you have it with you )
12:07 PM
(your breach rifle and medium advanced weapon are both readied, your revolver is not with you, but your laser pistol is stowed) (edited)

(Thanks for the list. I have edited my post to say that I'm switching to my pistol so I can carry the flare and a weapon)
Avatar
(sounds good. Not sure if anyone else has light, otherwise we can move in)

(Can I use my racial feature as an Ashen One to produce a normal flashlight or similar? I couldn't find a flashlight's price, but I don't think It'd be more than 50 cred)

(It’s a glowbug but yes you could make a bunch of them)

Drang digs in his pack and takes out a stack of 10 glowbug discs, offering them to the others and sticking one on himself, "Here, the range isn't great, but they should do the job. " (edited)
Avatar
Goblin accepts the glowbug and sticks it to his armor while keeping his flare with him while it's still working.
Avatar
Kror takes the glowbug and sticks it to it's chest. "Thanks, it should be enough. Looks like we are ready to dive in. Stay watchful and ready at any time, looks like there is a fight going on not far from here." He says before venturing down the escalators
Avatar
At the bottom of the stairs you can see a train has jackknifed into the tunnel, and from within you can hear the sounds of weapons fire and shouting. You can hear Ana and Jasper, and the report of Dali's gun is unique enough for you to tell it is him.
